Akers, Elder Jack Age, 64, of McDowell, died Friday, September 5, 2003, at his residence. Born September 27, 1938, in Floyd County, he was the son of Cloie Caudill Akers of Beaver, Ohio, and the late Pink Akers Sr. He was a retired carpenter and a member and elder of the Little Rosa Old Regular Baptist Church of the New Salem Association, at McDowell. He is survived by his wife, Mary J. Adams Akers. Other survivors include a son, LeRoy Akers of McDowell; two daughters, Cindy Murrell of Garrett, and Lisa Strassburg of McDowell; three brothers, Talbie Akers of Michigan, Dewey Akers of Wooster, Ohio, and Pink Akers Jr., of Lancaster, Ohio; four sisters, Brenda Hicks of McDowell, Madis Siders of Ohio, Marie Brown of Michigan, and Betty Henson of Beaver, Ohio; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two sons, Richard Akers and Charles Akers; a daughter, Tina Akers; two brothers, Jimmy Ray Akers and William Robert Akers; and a sister, Mildred Rings. Funeral services were conducted Monday, September 8, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home in Martin, with Elder Red Alley, and other elders of the Old Regular Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in the Osborne Cemetery (Frasures Creek) at McDowell, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home. Visitation was at the funeral home, with nightly services at 7 p.m.
