Enlisted in Abbeville, Alabama, at age 27, in Company G, Alabama 15th Infantry Regiment on July 1, 1861. He was captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on July 1, 1863, and sent to Fort McHenry. He then was transferred to Fort Delaware in July 1863 and was received there July 6, 1863. He entered the Fort Delaware Hospital February 7, 1864, and died February 8, 1864, as a Prisoner of War at Fort Delaware.
