On April 29, 2023, Robert Hall McCormick, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away at age 97. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister Anne (McCormick) McCullough and wife Gretchen (Bodendorfer) McCormick. Beloved father of Betsy McCormick, Nancy (Robert) McCormick, and Sara (Mark) Oliphant. Proud "Papa Bob" of six grandchildren, Mac, Sam, and Tucker Bassett; Lizzie, Abby, and Molly Oliphant. Brother-in-law and uncle to the McCullough, Ford, and Carlson families.

Bob was born on August 16, 1925, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Robert Sr. and Mary (Hubbard) McCormick. He graduated from Hughes High School in 1944. Enlisting at the age of 17, he served in the Pacific theater as a corporal for the US Marine Corps from 1944-1945. After the war, he attended the University of Cincinnati and graduated with a BS from Miami University in 1950. After earning his MBA from Harvard Business School, Bob worked with his father and nephew Rob as president of Kearns Coal Co. until he retired in 2005.

On April 29, 1961, Bob married the love of his life, Gretchen, and they raised their three daughters, Betsy, Nancy, and Sara in Cincinnati. He enjoyed playing tennis and squash and was an active member of the Cincinnati Tennis Club and the University Club of Cincinnati. An avid history student throughout his life, he was also active in the Ohio Society of Colonial Wars. Bob was known for his warm sense of humor and his love of people: always willing to help out as well as bring people together, he was always interested in everyone's story. He loved the outdoors, whether watching the sunset over the Ohio River, summers as a child in Wyoming or skiing in Aspen. He especially loved his travels with Gretchen, both in the US and Europe, and time spent with his daughters and grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 12, 10 AM at the Norman Chapel (on the grounds of Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Ave.) where family and friends will be received from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Interment at Spring Grove Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Spring Grove Funeral Homes Event Center. All are invited to attend.
