September 2, 1925 - April 11, 2023
Obituary
Dorothy Mae Boutwell McNeil, a loving and devoted wife, and dedicated mother to a family of two children, 4 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. She was brought into this world on September 1, 1925, to the late Thomas Aubrey and Katherine Boutwell. She was supported, guided, and deeply influenced by her Christian Grandmother, Ida Mae Van Pettway.
She married Athens McNeil upon his return from World War II and a year later, their first child, Tommy, was born. During this time with strong encouragement from his new wife, Athens surrendered to full-time service for the Lord and became a Baptist Minister. As Athens prepared for the Ministry, worked as an electrician, and built their first home, Peggy, their child was born.
She was a woman of strong faith, and she instilled in us the importance of family, hard work, and doing what is right. Being a supportive wife, homemaker, and mother was the most important part of her life; a role that gave her much pride and joy. She was an excellent mom, and she was kind, inventive, and dedicated to her family and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity.
Dorothy was passionate about beautiful flowers, and birds, and watching things grow. When she wasn't filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found teaching young girls about the Plan of Salvation, Christian missions, and how they should prepare to live a Spirit-filled life. Dorothy wanted to be a foreign missionary and was deeply passionate about the church, missions, and family, and she participated in countless church leadership roles over the years.
She is survived by her son, Thom (Marcy) McNeil; daughter, Peggy (Jeff) Feinberg; grandchildren, Michael (Rachael) McNeil, Krista (Andy Wayne) Chance, Jeffrey (Sarah) Feinberg, and Josh (Jami) Feinberg; 18 great-grandchildren.
She was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Moss Point. Visitation will be Thursday, April 13,2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Andy Wayne Chance officiating. The graveside service will be held Friday, April 14, 2023, at 11:00 at Biloxi National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Moss Point, Women on Missions, 4807 Main St., Moss Point, MS 39563
Mother, you will always be in our hearts, and we will never forget you. We love you so much. Rest in peace.
