Betty Jane Smith, 83, of Midlothian, Va., passed away February 12, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret B. and George S. Smith Sr.; brother, George "Sonny" Smith Jr.; and sister, June S. Hendricks; and nephew, Robert T. Estes Jr.; and great-nephew, Dylan Scot Pherson. She is survived by her sisters, Doris S. Estes. She is survived by her sisters, Doris S. Estes and Carol S. Rhoton (Don); and brothers, Donald P. Smith Jr. (Jean) and Howard G. "Butch" Smith (Denice); sister-in-law, Carole A. Smith; five nieces, four nephews and extended family. Betty retired from Bass Construction Company and was a member of Weatherford Memorial Baptist Church. She was an avid sports fan, playing softball and basketball and though she was short and small, she was mighty on the basketball court and softball field. She loved the outdoors, especially her birds and butterflies in her backyard. The family would like to thank Ginter Hall and Staff and Suncrest Hospice, for all they did for Betty. Betty suffered with Mutliple Sclerosis for over 50 years and had many falls with broken bones an even a stroke and COVID, but she fought the good fight. She managed to stay by herself until the last few years. We all marveled at her strength and determination. She will be dearly missed by all. A graveside ceremony will be held 1 p.m. Friday, February 17, at Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 W Hundred Rd., Chester, Va. 23831. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
