Dick graduated from Marks High School in 1958 and Mississippi State University in 1962. He was a CPA and graduate of the Jackson School of Law. He worked briefly for the CPA firm Ernst and Ernst in Houston, TX, then joined the Internal Revenue Service as a Revenue Agent in Columbus, MS. In 1966, he transferred to Jackson, MS, where he lived the rest of his life. He retired from the IRS in 1991, shortly before his death.
