Allen, May 29--Mrs. Mettie Cornwell died at her home in Allen this morning at 2 o'clock after a three months' sickness.

Funeral arrangements have not been made. The casket will be open at the Sexton funeral home in Americus until Friday afternoon when the body will be returned to Allen.

Mrs. Cornwell was born in Lorraine county, Ohio, October 23, 1868, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Eugene R. Marcy. She came to northern Lyon county in a covered wagon with her parents at the age of 10. They settled north of Allen. She married the late Wheeler Cornwell, August 7, 1890. Mrs. Cornwell was a member of the Allen Methodist church.

Mr. Cornwell died in 1939 and a son, Marcy Cornwell, died in 1932. Mrs. Cornwell is survived by seven children, Carl Cornwell, Ellsworth; Mrs. Rena Henderson, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Mabel Haworth, Americus; Royal Cornwell, Woodland, Calif.; Mrs. Isla Dunn, Syracuse, Kan.; Raymond Cornwell, White City; and Manley Cornwell, Bushong; a brother, Burton Marcy, Topeka; 16 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Bushong, June 5--Funeral services for Mrs. Mettie Cornwell of Allen, who died early Wednesday morning at her home, were held Sunday afternoon at the Bushong Methodist church. Prior to the service, a short service was held at the home. The Rev. Guy Simmons, of Dunlap, pastor of the Bushong and Allen Methodist churches, was in charge of the services.

A quartet, composed of Mrs. Lorene Weeks, Miss Arlene Smith, Lester Griffith of Emporia, and Henry B. Lawton, sang with Mrs. Henry B. Lawton at the piano. The pallbearers, all grandsons or grandsons-in-law of Mrs. Cornwell, were Blane Gravatt, of Los Angeles, Calif.; LeRoy Cornwell, White City; Carroll Litsey, Wichita; Ernest Cornwell, Ellsworth; Arthur Vanek, Wichita; and Eugene Dunn, Syracuse. Burial was in the Elmwood cemetery, Bushong. Relatives and friends outside the Bushong and Allen communities present were: C. C. Cornwell of San Francisco, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Henderson and Mr. and Mrs. Blane Gravatt, all of Los Angeles; Mr. and Mrs. Burton Marcy and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Asmussen, all of Topeka; Mr. and Mrs. Merle Gravatt and five children of Torrance, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Royal Cornwell of Woodland, Calif.; Mrs. Kale Dunn and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Dunn, all of Syracuse; Mr. and Mrs. Raymon Cornwell and sons, LeRoy and Tommy Cornwell, and daughters, Anna Mae, Zelma, and Clara Cornwell, and Mr. and Mrs. John Blithe, all of White City; Carl Cornwell, Mrs. Theola Novak, and Ernest Cornwell, all of Ellsworth; Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Haworth, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Worcester, Mr. and Mrs. John Redelfs, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Haber, Mr. and Mrs. Ace Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pierce, and Mr. and Mrs. John Goodell and daughter, Marjorie Goodell, all of Americus; Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Litsey and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Vanek, all of Wichita; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Dettmer, Mrs. Herbert Axe, and Lester Griffith, all of emporia; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Duncan and son, Pat Duncan, of Cuncil Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schaeffer and Mrs. Guy Simmons, all of Dunlap, and Sgt. June 5--Funeral services were held for Mrs. Mettie Cornwell, who died at her home in Allen Wednesday morning, at the Bushong Methodist church, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Guy Simmons, pastor of the Allen-Bushong charge, officiating. The singers were: Henry B. Lawton, Lester Griffith, Miss Arlene Smith and Mrs. Lorene Weeks. They sang, "In the Garden," "Going Down the Valley" and "Rock of Ages, " and were accompanied by Mrs. Henry Lawton. Pallbearers were: Blane Grovatt, LeRoy Conwell, Ernest Cornwell, Eugene Dunn, Carroll Litsey and Arthur Vanek all grandsons of Mrs. Cornwell.
