Richard Gene Adams, 69, of Atchison, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2008, at the Atchison Hospital.
Richard Gene Adams was born on August 20, 1938, in Atchison, the son of John Quincy and Lucille Irene (Draper) Adams.
He graduated from Atchison High School and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. Mr. Adams had formerly worked for Ferrel Gas Company and then as a deputy for the Atchison County Sheriff's Department. Mr. Adams then worked as a correctional officer for the Lansing Correctional Facility for many years. After retiring he worked in security for the Benedictine College, Atchison. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Post #6, Atchison. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, bicycling, hunting and reading.
Survivors include a brother, Aaron (Shirley) Adams, Atchison; a sister, Mrs. Linda (Jim) Miller Jr., Atchison; three nephews and three nieces.
His parents, a brother, Lawrence Adams, and a sister, Louise Adams, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at the Becker Dyer Stanton Funeral Home, 800 Kansas Ave., with Rev. Steve Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. in the Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth. A Masonic Lodge service will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with visitation to follow until 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church, Atchison Hospital Hospice or Benedictine College.
