OBITUARY

Yasmin Elisabeth Groehn
MARCH 24, 2003 – MAY 24, 2022

Obituary of Yasmin Elisabeth Groehn
IN THE CARE OF
Demaine Funeral Home
Yasmin Groehn was born in Brussels, Belgium on March 24, 2003, and graduated from T.C. Williams High School (now known as Alexandria City HS) with the Class of 2021. She is survived by her mother, Andrea de Freitas Kick, her father, Andreas Groehn, and siblings Tobias and Willow.

On the afternoon of May 24, 2022, Yasmin passed away in Segovia, Spain. She had just finished her first year at the Segovia, Spain campus of Instituto de Empresa (IE) University. Yasmin was living her dream life. Her goal was to study international relations and at a university in Spain. IE met both requirements.

Yasmin thrived on learning about different cultures, and her new friends came from all corners of the world. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining, hosting several group dinners, including her legendary 'feijoada' feast. She also loved animals, and filled containers outside of her apartment with cat food, attracting many of the local felines. Yasmin made dozens of friends in her nine months in Segovia, and only one enemy: the (other) cat lady.

Yasmin's family in Alexandria, Segovia, Stockholm, the UK, Brazil, Belgium, and Germany are grieving the loss of our bright young star. But we are at peace, even with shattered hearts, that her light continues to live inside each of us.

A viewing will be held at Demain Funeral home in Alexandria, Virginia on Monday, June 13, from 11:00am to 2:00pm followed by a service at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2701 Cameron Mills Rd, Alexandria, VA 22302, at 3:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Scholarship Fund of Alexandria, an organization that gives college scholarships to students at ACHS and with whom the family is setting up a scholarship in honor of Yasmin.
