Howard W. Banks

Announcement of the death of Howard W. Banks last Friday morning at 8 o'clock, brought regret to the many friends of this well known Milford man. The news was not unexpected for the seriousness of Mr. Banks' condition had been realized for several days.
Mr. Banks was stricken with several hemorrhages which weakened his condition to a gravely dangerous degree. It was a recurrence of trouble from which he had suffered on former occasions but it was of a much more severe nature. And owing to the fact he had not been feeling well for a number of weeks, his impaired strength was not sufficient to overcome the trouble.
Mr. Banks probably will be best remembered for his service as Village Marshal and Deputy Sheriff. He was known as a fearless and efficient public official who was respected by the lawbreakers as well as others. His influence was a strong crime-deterrent in this community during the years he was on duty.
Mr. Banks was born in Ohio, April 28, 1866, so was aged 65 years [62 years?], 8 months, and 2 days. He came to this township forty five years ago and made this his home since with the exception of a few years he was engaged in railroad work in Kansas. He belonged to the Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias and was an officer in the Encampment. His death occurred in the home of Addie Jones on N. Axtel Ave., in the house where his marriage occurred. He leaves in the immediate family, two daughters and one son together with a number of grand children.
The funeral service was held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Milford M.E. church in charge of the Rev. L.F. Davis, assisted by Rev. O.E. Clapp. The lodges he belonged to were represented by many of their membership. Internment was in Maple Grove Cemetery.
