Mary Esther Lewman, 80, of Atchison, KS, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2008 at her home in Atchison.
Mary Esther Carpenter was born on December 28, 1927 in Atchison, KS the daughter of Garold Carpenter and Ruth Terry.
She was a 1945 Graduate of A.C.C.H.S. and attended Mt. St. Scholastica. Mary Esther had worked in food service for the St. Benedict's Abbey baking and decorating cakes. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Mrs. Lewman enjoyed decorating and baking cakes, reading and spending time with her family. She devoted most of her time to her loving grandchildren.
Mary Esther was married to James Lewman on May 4, 1947; he preceded her in death on October 17, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother; John Carpenter, and a sister; Garol Dean Halstead.
Survivors include a son; Gary Lewman and his wife Kim, 3 grandchildren; Andrew, Austin and Avery Lewman, all of Atchison, and a brother Charles Carpenter, Warsaw, MO.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Fr. Meinrad Miller, OSB, officiating. Burial will follow in the Cummings Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM on Monday, January 7, 2008 at the funeral home.
