Andrew G. Papoutsakis, 91, of the Liberty Heights section of Springfield, was called safely home on Monday, April 25, 2022. He passed into Eternal Life at home, surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Gavalomoure, Crete, Greece, on June 17, 1930, a beloved son of the late George and Chrysanthi (Gereoudakis) Papoutsakis. He was raised and educated in Greece and served in the Greek Army. He immigrated to the United States in March of 1967 where he settled in Springfield and lived the remainder of his life.


He was employed for many years as a Press Machine Operator at Storms Forge in Springfield and previously was a barber in Greece. He was a communicant of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield. He was also a member of the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) and the Pancretan Association of America. During the summer months, he enjoyed working in his vegetable garden. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren.


He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Hrisa (Koundourakis) Papoutsakis. They were married on November 5, 1961 in Chania, Crete, Greece and were blessed with over 60 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving children, Georgia A. Papoutsakis and her husband, Donald L. Rhea, of Springfield, Nektarios A. Papoutsakis and his partner, Joann Grkovic, of Longmeadow and Maria A. Lewis of Monson; his four cherished grandchildren whom he adored, Sara Battersby, Jasmine Abdullayev and her husband, Vugar, Nikolas Papoutsakis and Chloe Lewis; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members in the United States and Greece. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his five dear brothers and sisters, Theodore, Michael, Francisco, Eleni and Antonia.
