Kathryn Alice Clem, 93, of Lancaster, Kansas passed away on Monday, December 31, 2007, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.

Kathryn was born on June 14, 1914, in Santa Ana, California, the daughter of Frank J. and Dora (Nevin) Anderson.

She has lived in Atchison County since the age of 3 months old. Kathryn attended Shannon Grade School and graduated from Atchison County Community High School, Effingham, in 1932. She received a Normal Training Teachers Certificate from the state.

She taught at Fairview School near Muscotah, Kansas for three years and at the Lancaster grade School for seven years. She worked at the State Bank of Lancaster for 27 years, beginning as a bookkeeper. She was a cashier of the bank from 1969-1985 and served as a bank director and Secretary of the Board before retiring on April 1, 1985.

Kathryn was a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church, where she was pianist and organist for many years. She liked to travel, had visited all 50 States and several countries in Europe. She enjoyed reading and baking pies and rolls, which she liked to share with family and friends. Her grandchildren were a joy to her, and she was always interested in all of their academics and athletic activities.

Kathryn was married to Jesse Ray Clem on June 14, 1942, in Lancaster. They lived in the Bellevue district near Atchison until 1946, when they moved to a farm near Lancaster.

Survivors include two sons; David A. (Katie) Clem, Effingham, Kansas, Richard (Debbie) Clem, Lancaster, Kansas, a daughter; Alice (Wayne) Rollf, Gardner, Kansas, two stepdaughters; Caroline Shufflebarger, Atchison, and Betty Adams, Salem, Oregon, a sister; Mrs. Frances J. Scholz, Lancaster, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, one nephew and three nieces.

Mr. Clem preceded her in death on Nov. 24, 1959 following a heart attack. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a stepdaughter; Lorraine Ham, and four step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2008, at the Lancaster United Methodist Church with Chaplain Jack Albright officiating. Burial will follow in the Lancaster Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, 800 Kansas Ave., Atchison.
