My mother's second husband.

Jake's father, John L. Dee Plant, was murdered in October of 1928 in Hickman, Kentucky, while Jake's mother, Dema Iva Wallace Plant Whitsett (later Wells), was expecting him. He therefore grew up in difficult circumstances, leaving home at about age 15 and fending for himself from that time on. He was intelligent and talented but struggled with alcoholism as an adult. He enjoyed reading (especially science fiction), fishing, watching football, exploring, traveling, and being a shade-tree mechanic.

Jake was married to my mother twice: from April 12, 1962 until approximately 1966 (divorced), and again from April 2, 1972 until approximately 1975 (divorced). They had two children together: a daughter, Patricia Deann Plant, born October 6, 1967, and a son, Patrick Shawn Plant, born November 25, 1969, both in Plantation, Florida. It was Shawn who designed his dad's headstone.
