Willis was born in Barsola, Texas on November 13, 1921, to William and Cora Burson Patton. He grew up hunting and fishing in the Pitney Woods of East, Texas. He served in the Army in WWII as a mechanic in France, Italy and Germany. Seeing Europe was really something for a county boy like Willis. On November 13, 1945, he married Ethyl Mae McKinnon. In 1947, they moved to Ennis for Willis to work as a cowboy on the Valley Farm. He eventually became foreman of the ranch.
His pride and joy was his family. He kept a journal documenting his life to pass down to his grandchildren. Carrying on the Patton name was very important to him. Hunting, fishing, trapping hogs, and reading and watching westerns were his favorite pastimes. It seemed only right that as he left his home for the last time, two deer were standing by the side of the road as if in his honor.
Willie is survived by his daughter, Linda Richardson, son, Billy Patton and wife, Judy; two grandchildren, Eli Patton and wife, Katie, Hannah McKee and husband, Kyle, four great-grandchildren, Meaghen Floyd and husband, Robert, Hayley Richardson, and Blake and Harrison Patton; two great-great-grandchildren, Dorian and John Floyd.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ethyl; four sisters, Milo Pate, Nina Craig, Adeline Julian and Pauline Goff; foster brother, Claude Henson; son-in-law, Boyd Richardson; and two granddaughters, Stacye Richardson and Jennifer Richardson.
Even though he lived in Ennis for almost 75 years he still considered East Texas his home. So, a graveside service will be held in the Connor Cemetery in Ratcliff, Texas at a later date.
