William L. "Bill" Barrand

William L. "Bill" Barrand, 81, of Denton, Kansas passed away on December 19, 2007, at an Overland Park, Kansas hospital.

Bill was born three miles west of Denton, February 22, 1926, the youngest of three children of Allen and Donna Roberts Barrand and was a lifelong Denton, Kansas area resident.

He attended Denton area schools, graduating from high school with the class of 1944. He served with the U.S. Navy, on the USS Frontier, a supply ship in the Pacific, as a gunners mate during World War II.

Bill returned to Denton and married Rosemary Hanson, November 6, 1948, at Robinson, Kansas. They farmed and raised livestock all of their married life near Denton. For the last month, they have made their home in an Overland Park assisted living apartment to be near their daughters and families.

Mr. Barrand was a longtime member of the Denton United Methodist Church. Bill was an over sixty year member of Masonic Lodge #449, AF & AM of Denton. He also was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member VFW Post #1175, both of Atchison, Kansas. He was a former member of BPOE #1741, Hiawatha, Kansas Elks Lodge. One of his favorite hobbies included music and during his retirement years, it became his best friend so much so that he took organ lessons.

Survivors include his wife; Rosemary, two daughters; Patricia and Henry Aboujawdeh and their children, Marla and Laina, of Overland Park, Kansas; Brenda Barrand and Ken James, and their children, Kara and Cameron, also of Overland Park.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; Helen Marcell, and a brother; Howard Barrand.

Funeral services are planned for 1 p.m. Sunday, December 23, at Denton United Methodist Church. Pastor Eric Rook will officiate. Interment will follow at the Denton Cemetery. Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland, Kansas after 2 p.m. Saturday where the family will meet with friends from 6 until 7:30 that evening.
