Francis Burchett, 77 years old, of Atchison, KS, died suddenly Wednesday, December 5th, 2007.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, December 10th, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Sunday, December 9th, 2007 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, 800 Kansas Ave., Atchison, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, Trinity Lutheran School Endowment Fund, or Mt. Vernon Cemetery Road or Endowment Fund. Francis Burchett was born on March 27th, 1930 in Atchison, KS, the son of Thomas and Opal (Cox) Burchett. He attended Trinity Lutheran Grade school and graduated as President of his class from Atchison High School in 1948. During high school he had worked for the Atchison Daily Globe and KARE Radio Station in Atchison. Francis was married to Rita Marie Byrd on December 5, 1948. She preceded him in death on May 24th, 2001. Mr. Burchett, after returning from the Coast Guard, became the manager of the former Falters Clothing Store. In 1972, Rita and Francis Burchett purchased and operated the Byrd Memorial Company, Atchison. They transferred ownership of the company to their two son's, Paul and Les Burchett in 1987. Mr. Burchett continued on as chairman of the company. Francis was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on the Board of Directors, as chairman of Elders and had also served as Chairman of the Day School Committee. He served as Secretary and was one of the originating board members of the Trinity Lutheran School Endowment Association. Mr. Burchett also served on the New Building Committee and as chairman of the Capital Stewardship Campaign to fund the new building. He was an usher and member of Pastor's Adult Bible Class. He was a member and Paul Harris Fellow of the Atchison Rotary Club, and member of the American Legion Post # 6, Atchison, KS. Mr. Burchett was a past president and member of the Mt. Vernon Cemetery Association.

Survivors include two sons; Paul F. Burchett, of the home, and Les and his wife Grace Burchett, Atchison, KS, a granddaughter; Kelsey Burchett, Kansas University, Lawrence, KS, a sister; Mrs. Dorothy (L.F.) Gardner, Atchison, KS and companion Carolyn Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rita Marie and a daughter Sandra Kay Burchett.
