Born September 18, 1933, in Wayne County, West Virginia, he was a son of the late Goodwin Rickman and the late Ruth Hatcher Rickman. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He retired as a Building Construction and Maintenance Supervisor from Appalachian Electric Power. After moving to Sumter, he was employed as a Cost Estimator for Sumter Utilities (formerly Sumter Builders). He was also co-owner of Bailey and Bailey Construction.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Merrill Rickman and Harm Billups, Jr.
