According to her birth certificate and the death certificate of a stillborn son, her name was Edith Capstick. However, on this side of the Atlantic Ocean for whatever reason, she chose to use the name Dorothy Capstick.

Both of Dorothy's parents had died by 1900. Dorothy and her sister Margaret, came to the US by way of Canada in late 1911. They arrived in New York City from Montreal, Canada.

By 1930, Dorothy was living in Fort Worth and was married to Harry Bernstein. Dorothy was a seamstress. She owned several dress and fur shops.

Dorothy and Harry had two children that survived infancy: Harry Jr and Phillip Bernstein. One child, a twin to Harry, Jr, died at birth. He was unamed.

Dorothy and Harry later divorced and married for a second time. The second marriage also ended in divorce. After the second divorce, she lived the remainder of her life with son, Phillip at 3521 Ruth Road.
