Gerald Clinton "Jerry" Addington Sr 1929-1999

Funeral services for Gerald Clinton "Jerry" Addington Sr., 69, of Melcher-Dallas, who died February 6, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, were held February 10, 1999, at the Apostolic Church in Knoxville.

Jerry was born April 3, 1929, in Topeka, Kan., the son of Elton and Alma Orman Addington. He was raised in Elkhart, Kan., and as a young man he was a cowboy for local ranchers, and worked as a farm hand.

He was united in marriage to Myrtle Umble on August 11, 1948, in Melcher. The couple made their home in Colorado, and he worked as a heavy equipment operator for Portland and Ideal Cement for over 20 years. The couple moved to Dallas, where he ran a bulldozer for a coal mine for a few years, then began working for Vermeer.

He retired in 1994 with over 20 years of service. He was a member of the Apostolic Church in Knoxville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Benny; a sister, Ethel Eastman; and a grandchild.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Shirley Crandall of Kearny, Ariz., and Nancy Hall and Connie Hyden, both of Knoxville; three sons, Robert of Hamilton, New Zealand, Jerry Jr., of Knoxville, and Richard of Melcher-Dallas; seven brothers, Perry and Frank, both of Canon City, Colo., Kenneth and Levi, both of Florence, Colo., Steve of Phoenix, Ariz., Elton of Pueblo, Colo., and Donald of La Junta, Colo.; four sisters, Nora Miller of Florence, Colo., Anna McDowell of Denver, Colo., Susie Sword of White Pigeon, Mich., and Twila Starr of Quanah, Texas; 18 grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren.

Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery in Marion County.

The Reverends Charles Rutter and Robert Addington officiated at the services. Music was provided by Janice Rutter, pianist.

Pallbearers were Seth Hall, Charles Ball, Adrian Wolfe, Loren Hall, Mark Wallace, and Wade Crandall. Honorary bearers were his grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Arrangements were made by Bybee and Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville.
