Family history says that his wife, Pheraba Jane Moon Branum, buried his body in the woods and that his burial spot is unknown. She is buried in Moon Cemetery in Owens Cross Roads, Madison County, Alabama.
In recent years a CSA memorial stone has been erected for Pvt. Benjamin Branum (1825- Oct 11 1864) in Moon Cemetery but his military unit is incorrect on the tombstone. He served in Company D (one suggestion that it was Company G) of the 55th Alabama Infantry Regiment, not the 56th Regiment. Not only does the widow's pension for Jane Branum list the 55th Regiment, but "Ben Brannon" is also listed as a soldier in The Forgotten Regiment: A day-by-day account of the 55th Alabama Infantry Regiment, CFA (1861-1865) by Rex Miller, published in 1984. According to this source, he served in Company G of the 55th Alabama Infantry.
