John W. "Jack" Roan, 79, of Keokuk, died at 3 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007, at his cousin's home.


Born on July 22, 1928, in Keo-kuk, he was the son of Martin J. and Inez Rovane Roan Sr.

Mr. Roan joined Johanna's Dental Lab in 1952, then owned and operated the Keokuk Dental Lab for many years until his retirement. He graduated from St. Peter's High School in 1949. He served in the Army in Korea. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church. He was an original member of McNamara's Band and was the band director for many years. He also was a member of Knight's of Columbus, Elk's Lodge, American Legion, United Commercial Travelers and YMCA.

Survivors include one son, Sean Skinner of Keokuk; two grandchildren; two brothers, Martin J. Roan of Sun City West, Ariz., Robert L. Roan of Stillwater, Minn.; one cousin Thomas "Tommy" V. Tigue and numerous nieces/nephews, and cousins from the Marlin family-John Marlin, Kate Marlin-Tisdale, Barry Marlin, Paul Marlin, Mary Ann Marlin-Crombie, and Mary Ann's children-Amelia Crombie and Sean Crombie-of Washington, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Greaves Mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A Christian Vigil will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Greaves Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at All Saints Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Connolly officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery with military honors.

A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Renal Dialysis, McNamara's Band and Keokuk Christian Academy.

Jack is buried beside his parents.

He was the nephew of Thomas V. Tigue and Nellie Rovane Tigue.

He was cousins with Margaret Ellen Tigue.
