Prime Minister of Mauritius. He was the First Prime Minister of Mauritius that served from March 1968 until June 1982. He was a member of the Labor Party that was a center-left social-democratic party. He was born to Moheeth Ramgoolam(father) and Basmati Ramchurn (mother). He attended college at University College London and London School of Economics. In 1958 he became the leader of the Labor Party until 1985. He was also the Lord Mayor of Port Louis in 1958 and 1959. Another office he held was that of Governor-General of Mauritius from December 1983 until December 1985. He was one of the main fighters for his country to gain their independence which they did on March 12, 1968. He married Sushil Ramjoorawon in 1939 and together they had 2 children.
