Robert Lynn Banks (Pops), 80, of Richardson, Texas, died June 29, 2021, at Medical City Plano surrounded by family.

He was born August 12, 1940, in Jacksonville, Texas, the son of the late Robert Lewis Banks and Lynn Marie Marshall Banks. He was the oldest of 3 siblings, having two surviving sisters, Diann Banks Norton and Judy Banks Ramey.

In 1962 he married Mary Martha Fletcher Banks, who preceded him in death.

He graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He went on to work for Science Associates creating some of the first displays for the New York Stock Exchange. After his time at Science Associates, he reluctantly joined a group of engineers at Mostek in 1970 designing chips for some of the earliest calculators. Mostek was eventually bought by SG Thompson where he went on to become VP of quality. Possibly the most notable achievement of his career was to lead the ST initiative to win the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 1999. With ST, he also championed forestry scholarships at Stephen F. Austin University. As a man devoted to working, he continued to serve at Tronics into his mid 70's, leading the group to achieve the ISO Certification allowing the company to be acquired by TDK Electronics.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Shannon Elizabeth Banks Myers and James Andrew Myers, along with his grandchildren, James Robert Myers and Erin Elizabeth Myers.

Services will be held at Wallace-Thompson Funeral home in Rusk, Texas on the 10th day of July 2021 (3pm).

A memorial gathering will be held at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas on the 9th day of July 2021(3 to 6pm).

As a beloved father, grandfather, brother, mentor, and friend, he will be forever loved.
