A memorial service was conducted today at the Naval Training Center North Chapel for James P. Ewing, 65, a retired Navy chief sonarman who died Thursday in his Normal Heights home. Cremation, with ashes to be scattered at sea, was planned under the direction of the Telophase Society. Mr. Ewing was born in Buffalo, N.Y. He was a resident of the county 40 years and was in the Navy 32 years. Surviving are his wife, Marie; four daughters, including Rosemary Rue and Patricia Bareno, both of San Diego; two sons; six brothers; three sisters; and 11 grandchildren.
