She was a member of Holy Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities of various departments. As well as the Aliquippa Usher Union, Helping hands charity club, a Girl Scout leader and a poll worker for the Beaver County Board of Elections.
Mary was a cook for the Jones School Headstart Program and was a proud homemaker. Her hobbies included cross stitching, baking, gardening for which she was featured on the cover of Oregon's Journal on Aging "Growing their own; Older adults find gardening projects benefits mind and body" Summer 1988.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William Frank Alston, Sr.; son William F. Alston, Jr.; son in law Bedford Gale; siblings – Emma Peebles, Rachel Pebbles – Lowe, Charles Pebbles, Curtis Peebles, Jr., Robert Peebles and Asa Peebles.
Lennie leaves to cherish her memory and carry forth her legacy of faith, family, and community: Two daughters, Belinda Gale (Bedford-deceased), Venita Alston Crawford; three sons, Lawrence (Janese), Donald (Jacqueline) and Michael (Rosalind) and daughter in law, Phyllis Alston; elven grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; one great – great grandchild.
Viewing will take place at Triedstone Baptist Church, 505 Washington Street, Aliquippa, PA on Friday, March 19 from 6 to 8 pm. Due to gathering restrictions and to maintain social distancing, the homegoing service will be private and take place on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 12 noon with Reverend James Williams eulogizing. Service will be livestreamed. Private Entombment will follow, Woodlawn Cemetery, Aliquippa PA. Professional services are entrusted to Pitts Funeral Home of Aliquippa.
