Larry Alden Richardson of Mesa, Arizona, passed away Friday, January 8, 2021 at the age of 83.
Larry was born in Mesa, Az. on August 21,1937 to Gilbert and Barbara Fuller Richardson. He was the twelfth of twelve children. He had fond memories of spending time on the family ranch in Aravaipa Canyon. He loved being outdoors and was never afraid of the rattlesnakes, scorpions, mountain lions and other wild animals that roamed the hills, so he was given the nickname "Fearless".
As a young man, Larry attended and graduated from Mesa High School, where he enjoyed playing tennis and chess. After graduating, he attended Arizona State University for a time, after which he served a mission in Guatemala for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Upon his return, he served as a Medic in the Air Force reserves.
He soon met and married Erlene Haynie in the Mesa LDS Temple. They raised twelve children. He designed and built several homes for his family over the years. He provided well for his family, working first for the Mesa Police Dept., then working in the trucking industry until his retirement. Larry always loved driving, so in their later years, he and his wife enjoyed taking long road trips together.
Larry was a beloved and faithful husband, father, and grandfather. He loved camping in the woods, watching westerns, drawing, reading, playing the piano, and generously giving to others. His children and grandchildren will always treasure cards sent to them with a fun drawing inside he drew for them. He was known for his quick wit and soft, patient, kind demeanor. He loved the Lord and taught his children through word and example to do the same. He was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Erlene Haynie Richardson, and his children, Alden Richardson (Misato Rhu), Cindy Cluff (Robert), Kate Merkley (Lewis), Tammy Rowland (Daniel), Kurt Richardson (Leann Crockett), Cory Richardson, Kyle Richardson, Branden Richardson (CindyLou Martin), Connie Cochran (Williams), Laren Richardson, Dean Richardson (Heather Barney), Garet Richardson (Kim Jessee), 44 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
There will be a viewing for friends and family, Friday, January 22, 2021 from 9:00-9:40am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 15 West 1st Ave., Mesa, Az. 85210. Funeral services will follow at 10:00am. A link to view the services virtually will be provided through facebook and email.
