He married Latane Brown-Earnhardt, the ex-wife of NASCAR Driver Dale Earnhardt Sr and became the stepfather of her son former NASCAR Driver Kerry Earnhardt whom he eventually adopted until Kerry got to see his biological father again at age 16. In his spare time Jackie enjoyed golfing and fishing. Jackie Key passed away on March 15th 2007 at NorthEast Medical Center in Kannapolis at age 56 from a brief illness. He was survived by his wife Latane, daughter Janene, stepson Kerry, three sisters Judy, Cathy, and Bobbie, and four grandchildren.
