Deborah “Deb” Lee Pittenger Akers, 64, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away December 23, 2020, at FTMC after complications with a medical procedure. She was born on November 1, 1956, to the late (Maryella) “Fritzie” Hayes Pittenger and the late David W. Pittenger. Upon graduating from Norwalk High School in 1975, she was employed at Norstat in Norwalk, OH, and worked there until it closed. Deb was married to Richard Akers in July of 1987. She attended the Nazarene Church in Norwalk and Willard and served as a Sunday school teacher and church treasurer. Deb enjoyed reading, crocheting, cooking, baking, and all kinds of crafting.
She is survived by her brothers and a sister. Also, surviving are her nephews; niece; great-niece; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Joe (David) Pittenger, and great-niece, Sakura Pittenger, Ben and Megumi’s daughter. Deb loved her family, especially her nieces and nephews, whom she considered being like her own children and a true blessing from God. While the words of Philippians 4:13, “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength,” gave her life meaning and direction she wanted others to know, “God has blessed me with each one of you- mom, dad, grandparents, brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts, uncles, nephews, and niece, more nieces by marriage, two great-nieces and spiritual mentors (like John and Joan P.), who were great teachers in how to live a Christian life. I am so thankful for each one of you. My life has had much joy which all of you had a part in. My life may not seem like I have accomplished much or had any great successes, but it is all those little things and special moments that add up to be a fantastic, meaningful life. My life has been full and blessed and deeply enriched by all of you, my family, and my friends.”
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk, and the family will hold a celebration of Deb’s life at a later time. At Deb’s request, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in her memory.
