He is survived by his two children, David and Carolyn; his three grandchildren, who were the light of his life; and by his brothers and sisters; Atour, Livnan, and Ashur, and their children who were his beloved nephews and nieces.
Benhur was born in Hamadan, Iran on August 7, 1940 to Sanver and Mary Abbasi. He came to the United States in 1969 at the age of 29 looking for a better life. He studied engineering, graduating with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. After his studies, he settled in Chicago, Illinois where he worked as an engineer. He got married in Chicago and began a family, welcoming two children, David and Carolyn; both of whom went on to become doctors.
Benhur was devoted to his children and was very involved with their education and sports activities growing up. He often would enjoy practicing and playing baseball and wrestling with his son David, and playing basketball with his daughter Carolyn. His children's activities were his utmost priority and he would never miss a game.
Eventually Benhur moved and settled in San Jose, California where he lived the rest of his life. After he retired from being an engineer, he was fortunate to live near his brothers and sister. He was close with each of his siblings and was instrumental in helping them relocate from Iran to the United States.
Benhur was an avid biker and loved mountain biking with his "very special bike." He created a San Jose biking group to conquer every last San Jose mountain trail. Although he was the oldest member of the group, he was always out in front as the leader of the pack.
Benhur's favorite thing to do was to visit with his children and grandchildren. He loved watching all of the family videos and pictures, and made sure to enjoy a weekly video chat with his grandchildren. He enjoyed constantly printing pictures and creating videos of them. Anything that had to do with his family, children or grandchildren always made him the happiest.
Benhur will be deeply missed, but he lives on through the memories of his loved ones.
