Mr. Hurlis (Rob) Roberts passed away Sunday February 15, 2015. Mr. Roberts was born in Guntown Mississippi on February 12, 1934 to parents Eber and Ada Roberts, Mr. Roberts was one of 11 children born into a farm family. Mr. Roberts moved to Dyersburg, Tennessee from Mississippi at an early age with siblings, he then moved to Chicago, Illinois where he later met Monie Derting who was from Huntsville, Alabama, they married in 1955. Mr. Roberts was later drafted into the U.S. Army as a Radar Control Officer, during this time he studied electronics before he was honorably discharged in 1958. He received further electronics training thru Devry University in Chicago. Mr. Roberts returned with new wife Monie to Huntsville, Alabama where he lived for a short time before building a house in Madison Alabama in 1962. Mr. Roberts was employed at Redstone Arsenal and thru the years worked on various missile systems before retirement from the government in 1996. Prior to retirement from a career in Civil Service, Mr. Roberts also for many years owned and operated Rob’s TV Service in Madison, Alabama also was an early Assistant Fire Chief for the Madison Volunteer Fire Department as well as very active in local politics in Madison, he also served as president of the Madison Civitan club for many years. In 2000, Mr. and Mrs. Roberts moved to East Limestone County where he lived until his death. Mr. Roberts was a member of the College Park Church of God in Huntsville and served as an elder for many years.

Survivors include Mr. Roberts wife of 59 years, Mrs. Monie Derting Roberts of Athens, Alabama, His son Rodney Roberts and daughter-in-law Tammy of Decatur, Alabama. Son Ty Roberts and daughter-in-law Christie Roberts of Athens, Alabama, 8 Grand-children, Ethan Roberts, Lacey Roberts, Quinn Roberts, Rachel Roberts, Sara Wallace, Alyson Roberts, Bailey Roberts and Abigail Roberts. Mr. Roberts has one surviving brother, Mr. Lee Roberts living in Southaven, Mississippi.

Funeral service will be at Madison Chapel Funeral Home on Thursday, February 19 at 1 PM, visitation will be from 11-1 on Thursday.
