Douglas "Doug" James De Broux

DePere - Douglas "Doug" James De Broux, age 66, passed away surrounded by his family at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, WI on his favorite holiday, Thanksgiving, November 26, 2020.

Doug was born in Green Bay, WI on March 7, 1954 as the eldest child to James and Lois De Broux. He graduated from Abbot Pennings High School in 1972. From there he went to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and eventually transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in May of 1978. After graduation he interned for ShopKo until he became a registered pharmacist on December 9, 1980 where he continued to work for several years. In August 1986, Doug was appointed to the City of Green Bay Board of Health and eventually owned and operated his own pharmacy, named the De Broux Pharmacy, located in Coleman, WI. He remained an active member of the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin, formerly known as the Wisconsin Pharmaceutical Association, throughout his life. Doug eventually became a pharmacy manager for many years with Shopko and Walgreens after selling the De Broux Pharmacy. He was a wonderful manager and mentor to many. In 2010, Doug became Pharmacy Manager of the Year with Walgreens. He held a clinical instructor role for the UW School of Pharmacy from 1997 through 2019 and frequently helped with their admission interviews. On May 6, 2020, Doug partially retired and stepped down from management to enjoy his family, friends and time out at his cottage.

Doug was not only a mentor to the people he worked with, but to his friends and family as well. He served as the ultimate big brother to his siblings and best friend, Chuck Larschied. And the most remarkable and understanding father to his three daughters.

Doug was an active guy and avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending time in nature by going on bike rides, taking long drives through Door County, capturing photographs and spending time in his darkroom, watching sunsets and gardening at his cottage, spending time with his daughters, Deb and grandkids, setting off tremendous displays of fireworks, going squirrel and deer hunting with his family, shooting at the rifle range and tinkering in the garage with his tools and loading his own ammunition. He was also a longtime Civil War re-enactor for the 10th Tennessee where he always brought cigars to share with the troops. Doug's pride and joy later in life was spending time with his family and friends at the cottage.

He is survived by his mother Lois; fiancé Deb Steuck; daughters Laura De Broux, Michelle (Zach) Knell; stepsons Ben and Zach Steuck; grandchildren Lily, Zach, Ethan, and Samara; siblings Don (Terri) De Broux, Mary De Broux, Matt (Jean) De Broux, and Sarah, (Bill) Wulf; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter Lisa De Broux, father James De Broux, and brother Dave De Broux.

His family would like to thank the staff members at Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe, WI and St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, WI for their exceptional care of Doug.

There will be a private funeral service on December 22, 2020 with a livestream of services at 2pm that can be viewed by all on the Facebook page for St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish in Green Bay, WI. To view and sign this guestbook please visit www.ryanfuneralservice.com.
