Jean Stengel, of Mason, passed away on Friday, September 12, at the age of 91. Mrs. Stengel is survived by her son Leo Stengel and wife Jean of Tempe Arizona and a granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Stengel of Lexington, Kentucky. She is also survived by her niece and nephews Ann Grote and family, Bob Brandenberger and family and Andy Brandenberger and family. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Lee Roy Stengel, a son Donald Stengel and two sisters Patsy Brandenberger and Betty Strayhorn.

Jean was born January 2, 1923 in Mason County to Leo Hofmann and Lois Watkins Hofmann. She was a graduate of Mason high School. Jean married Lee Roy Stengel on May 9, 1942. Their marriage was blessed with two sons. Jean was a loving mother and believed that children needed their mother at home so she put her career on hold for several years. After the kids were grown, Jean went back to college and received her degree in education. She taught high school math in Mason for many years. Jean loved to be around children and did whatever she could to help her students be successful. She was a life-long member of the Methodist Church and was active in church activities in earlier years. Jean also served on the Mason Hospital Board. Jean was very close to her dogs and they were like family to her.

Visitation with the family will be Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 16, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mason with Rev. Colleen Haley officiating. Interment will follow in the Gooch Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Bob Brandenberger, Andy Brandenberger, L.B. Haines, Lee Haines, Bob Al Hofmann and Ryan Jordan.
