He was a retired Major from the United States Air Force, having served in World War II and Vietnam. He was also retired from The Strategic Studies Institute at the Army War College in Carlisle.
He attended Penbrook United Church of Christ, Penbrook. He was a member of the Silver Wings Fraternity, Order of Daedalians (National Fraternity of Military Pilots), Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Air Force Association. His interests included hunting, fishing, golf, camping, and travel.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Myra M. Hankee; 2 sons, William Q. Hankee of Seirra Vista, Arizona, and James E. Hankee, of Ferndale, Washington; 2 daughters, Donna M. Sugoh of Peckskill, NY, and Marty H. Barbush of Harrisburg; a brother, Richard Hankee of Archibald; a sister, Mary Alice Calpin of Maple Shade, NJ; 4 grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Funeral services were held at the Hetrick Funeral Home, Susquehanna Township, Harrisburg, Pa. with burial at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Lebanon County, Pa.
