Levin was born in the Denson Springs area of south Anderson Co, TX to Kindred and Diana Bradshaw Watkins. His parents are buried in Denson Springs Cemetery. He shares a stone with his wife, Leo Docia Parks, who he married 24 November 1890 in Anderson County. They were the parents of Bessie Watkins Gray, Homer Parks Watkins, Vernita Margaret Watkins, and Lucille Watkins McDowell. Gad owned and operated a general merchandise store in Elkhart for many years. He served on the Elkhart School Board. He was a Mason. His biography is in A Centennial History of Anderson County by Pauline Buck Hohes in the Palestine Public Library.
