BUILDER Of Noted Structures dies in Geneva-A Lorain County Boy
Geneva, O., March 13--A. A. Axtell, who for a great many years was a leading business man of Lorain and Cleveland, died at his home at Geneva, O., Thursday, after an illness of several months.
Mr. Axtell was born in Henrietta Township, Lorain County, O., seventy-seven years ago. His early life was spent on the farm. He was a sailor for several years, and later took up shipbuilding and was at one time identified with the old wooden ship building yards at Lorain and Cleveland. In 1863 he embarked in the carpenter contracting business in Cleveland.
During his residence in Cleveland, Mr. Axtell constructed many of the large business and public buildings, among them, being St. Paul's church and the federal building, the tearing down of which was commenced last year. Among other buildings constructed by him were the Hotel Andwur at Elyria and the public school building at North Amherst.
He was taken ill on December 10th with neuralgia and inflammation of the heart. He leaves a widow, formerly a Miss Tyrell, of Ridgeville and a brother and sister.
