Professional Baseball Player. He played three seasons for the Detroit Tigers and the California Angels. He made his major league debate with the Tigers during the 1971 season when Billy Martin decided to start the rookie lefty against the Cleveland Indians. Gilbreth tossed a five-hit, complete game 6-1 victory over the Indians, Gilbreth also had two of his team's 12 hits. He got a hit in his first at-bat and singled during a three-run seventh inning that snapped a 1-1 tie.
Bill was the only child of Penn and Orbie Gilbreth. He was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Abilene Christian High School in 1965 and Abilene Christian University in 1969 with a bachelor's degree in business.
