Clara and her husband Bobby Griggs were killed instantly in a car crash when a drunk driver came across the median and struck them head on doing over 100. Junior and Clara were leaving church to celebrate their wedding anniversary

She is buried next to her husband Grover Wilburn Griggs Jr. and her mother in law Fannie Ethyl Parten Griggs.

Mrs. Clara Lee Griggs, of Euless, Texas, died Monday. Survived by 3 sons, Joe Merritt and Jim Merritt both of Houston, and Robert Griggs of Euless; five daughters, Mrs. Arlene Richards, Lubbock; Mrs. Marilyn McAffee, Japan; Mrs. Elizabeth Atterbury, Lubbock; Mrs. Sandra Self, Lubbock; Miss Sherry Griggs, Euless; 17 grandchildren.
