Louis "Hal" Arlo Holliday, III of Beaufort, SC, died Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at his residence. Hal was born in Manning, SC on July 3, 1963, to Barbara Gayle Overby Holliday and Louis Arlo Holliday, Jr. Surviving family are a daughter, Pamela Gayle "Paige" Holliday, two sons, Joshua Holliday and Matthew Holliday; a brother, Jeff Holliday and three grandchildren; one stepson, Michael and two stepdaughters, Sunny and Dena.
Hal was a very special person and extremely talented athlete. On a sports field he was truly at home. Baseball and football were his natural callings from his youth and stayed that way until the Lord called him home. When he could no longer play sports due to his health, he turned to his real true calling of coaching football. Hal dedicated himself to inspiring young men to grow into mature and positive adults through his passion, love and discipline of football. His shining example of maturity, dedication, discipline, sportsmanship and equality were his strengths. Love and compassion were never far behind Hal. He worked with the mentally handicapped and as a social worker. Hal was able to see a person's character and judge them on their actions. He could see much deeper than the color of a person's skin. When you were with Hal you knew that he would always treat you as a member of his family no matter what. His eyes were blue, and he saw strangers as possible friends and never as enemies. He demanded from his players no less than 100 percent on and off the field. He would say that "Success is more than money and status, it's being remembered as the person that took a few minutes to listen and mentor not only children but adults too". To him football was a lifestyle, not a game. He's sorely missed by his family and friends. He loved unconditionally and was loved by everyone that met him. He was rich beyond our capabilities to understand because of his giving spirit. Hal never met a stranger and would hug friends and say "I love you" before letting them leave. Everyone that met him never forgot him. Admiration and love of so many people made him a billionaire. He walks hand and hand with the Lord now. We will meet again Hal. The day he was buried was the 28th of June 2020. The significance of that day is that it's "Carolina Day". It was the 244th anniversary of the Battle of Sullivan's Island. The special day in South Carolina was the perfect day to lay Hal to rest under the old oak trees in Oak Grove. He was a true Sandlapper from South Carolina. Dum Spiro Spero
