Passed away peacefully in his sleep at home with his family on March 26, 2020 in San Diego, California. Robert was born on March 20, 1948, in Sydney, Australia, to Bob and Iva Kerr. In 1950, the family moved to Great Falls, Montana, where he grew up with older sister Sherry and younger sister Rhea. Robert went to Great Falls Elementary School and attended Great Falls High School, until his senior year when he decided to play for Charles M. Russell High School's first football team and graduated in 1966. While still in high school he was a member of the Air Force Reserve. Robert attended Eastern Montana State University and earned an associate degree in business. In 1971 he enlisted in the Navy and left Montana, even though it would always be home. Robert was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for two years before transferring to San Diego. In 1976 he married the love of his life, Rosa Marin, on his 28th birthday. Robert became the father figure to Rosa's three children: Judy, George, and Rosie (Daddy's girl). Robert moved his new family to Murphy Canyon military housing in Tierrasanta, where they lived for 16 years. The Kerr's enjoyed hosting parties, listening to albums, and dancing the night away. Christmas was Robert's favorite holiday, as he loved spoiling his kids and grandchildren. Rosa spoiled Robert with her amazing cooking, his favorite was her homemade salsa, but he was definitely the King of BBQ. Robert was a Vietnam Veteran, sailed the seas the world over as a proud boatswain's mate, and retired from the Navy as Chief Petty Officer in 1992. Retirement did not sit well with Robert, so he went on to work another 20 years for San Diego X-Ray. He fixed and maintained X-Ray machines for chiropractors, dentists, veterinarians, science labs, and health centers all over San Diego. Summer vacation for the Kerr's was driving from San Diego to Montana. They loved to spend time at the family cabin in Lincoln and catch up with old friends at the Montana State Fair in Great Falls. Many fun-filled weekends were spent with Rosa's side of the family in San Gabriel, California. Robert had a passion for muscle cars. He proudly owned a 1966 GTO, 1971 Nova, and his most prized possession was a 1978 Camaro. An avid sports fan, you could find him drinking Coors Light, listening to classic rock and watching NASCAR, football, baseball, basketball, hockey, bowling…the list goes on. He was a lifelong Yankee fan and admired Dale Earnhardt, Sr. In Robert's last year, he lived with his daughter Rosie, son-in-law Andrei, and grandson Robbie Kerr. Every weekend he looked forward to spending time with friends at the VFW, TomCat Bar, and Carver's restaurant. Robert was preceded in death by his father Bob Kerr in 1996, his mother Iva in 2002, and his beautiful wife Rosa in 2018. Robert is survived by his sisters, his three children, and eight grandchildren: Steven, Ashley, Taylor, Emily, Robbie, Jonathan, Ilya and Remus.
