Mrs. Matilda Owens Dies at Age of 92

Mrs. Matilda Owens, 92, died at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Deetz, 806 East Douglas street. Mrs. Owens was an aunt of Mrs. Deetz and had made her home with the latter for about four years.

Mrs. Owens was born at Bellfontaine, Ohio, Oct. 22, 1837. She was a daughter of Nicholas and Esther Strayer who later moved to Lexington, Ill., and were pioneer residents of that community. She was a sister of the late Mrs. Tipton, wife of Judge Thomas F. Tipton, one of the early jurists of McLean county, and also of Charles Strayer, deceased, who for many years was a resident of Bloomington. Another brother, V.T. Strayer, died in Leory two years ago.

She was married at Council Bluffs, Iowa, to James Owens, who died here four years ago. Up to the time of her husband's death Mrs. Owens had been a resident of Glenwood, Iowa, for 48 years. She was a lifelong member of Glenwood Methodist Episcopal church.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Libbie Brittin of Ponomna, Calif., and a brother, Thomas Strayer of Reece, Mich.
