Thomas Lewis Mauney, age 80, died Thursday, March 12, 2020 at his home. Born in Gaston County on January 1, 1940, he was the son of the late Noah Matthew and Bessie Mae Mauney. Tom was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and helped with the youth group. He was in the Cleveland County choral Society, where he could express his love of singing. Tom worked as a field engineer for IBM and enjoyed working with computers. Tom was known for his great sense of humor, love of singing, working with computers and his love for animals. In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by three brothers, Pete Mauney, Jim Mauney and John Mauney

Tom is survived by his wife of 48 years, Evelyn Bolick Mauney; a son, Jonathan Mauney and wife Yvonne of Kernersville; a sister, Margie Homesley of Cherryville; two brothers, Bill Mauney and wife Jane and Frank Mauney both of Cherryville; a grandson, Alexander Thomas Mauney; a host of loving nieces and nephews; and his canine companion, “Max”
