Leota Banister, 84, of Claude died Sunday, March 8, 2020 in Claude.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 11, 2020 in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon with family members, officiating. Burial will follow in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon.

Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.

Leota was born on a farm east of Clarendon to Pink and Nolia Shipp Marshall on September 30, 1935. The family moved to Ashtola when she was five where she lived until she married Kenneth Banister on January 1, 1952 in Clarendon. She and Kenneth went through many hardships. Kenneth farmed during the 50's. May 1957 there farm north of Clarendon was hit by a tornado. Kenneth gave up farming in 1959, and they moved to Amarillo where he paved roads, moving to Lewisville in 1969 and paved roads over the Dallas area and south Texas. They moved back to Amarillo where Kenneth continued road Construction. In 1976, they moved to Claude where Leota could turn her hobby into a business. She started kennels. She raised, trained, and showed many champion french bulldogs and Boston terriers until her health forced her to give it up in 2008. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was baptized in August 1949 at Clarendon. She is a life member of the Panhandle Kennel Club of Amarillo, life member of French Bulldog Club of America, and a charter member of the French Bulldog Club of Dallas and Fort Worth. She also spent a lot of her time with her nieces, nephews, grandsons, and granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2007; her son, Kenneth Dwight Banister in 1982; and a brother, Bill Marshall in 1964.

Survivors include two daughters, Denise Compton and husband David of Claude, and Donna Lara of Claude; 3 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
