Mrs. Josephine Watkins Brager, age 99, of Barry passed away peacefully at Garrison Nursing Home on Monday, January 6, 2020. She was born on May 29, 1920 in Corsicana to Mack and Ada Watkins of Barry, Texas.

She was a standout for Barry High School. She made the County All-Star Team and won All-State Honors. She loved playing basketball and was chosen the Best Forward in Navarro County for two years. She was also a member of the Southern AAU First Team.

In 1937-1938 Josephine joined the All-American Redheads professional basketball team in Cassville, Missouri and made one season tour with the team. She was a standout with the Dallas Hornets women’s basketball team, Coca-Cola YMCA league in Dallas, Texas from 1939 to 1941.

She was nominated to the Texas Sports Hall of Fame for induction in the Veteran category. To say that she was an outstanding athlete would be a grave understatement.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands, Tom Howard and Norman Allen Brager.

Josephine is survived by her children; Jo Carolyn Worsham of Nacogdoches, Texas and Jeanne Patterson and husband Dan of Waco, Texas. She leaves behind to cherish her memory ten grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

A private family burial is scheduled for 11:00 AM at Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana.
