Pvt., Co. F., 8th Mo. Inf., C.S.A. "On 26 Dec 1862 taken prisoner by Northern troops, was taken 1 March 1863 to Rolla Prison, Phelps Co., MO., where he was kept two months, lacking 3 days. Was then released and started walking for his home (in TX Co.). After he had walked 6 miles in Phelps Co. he died. He had lived Stanford, Texas Co., Mo.
James was the son of Isaac Barb and Elizabeth Droke . Paternal grandparents were Johann Jacob Barb Jr and Mary Barbara Miller. Maternal grandparents were John Droke and Barbara Foust. James siblings included two sisters, Catherine and Mary Barbara Barb, and three brothers, John, Jacob and Gideon Barb. At the time of James death he left behind his wife and four children.
