JAMES B. DESHAZO was born on June 8, 1858 in Fredericksburg, VA., son of Lucinda Bayliss and James Edward DeShazo. He married Emma E. Hilton of New Brunswick, Canada, daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth Hilton, on September 13, 1887 in Boston, MA. In the 1900 census they were living on Park Street in Chelsea and he listed his occupation as mechanical engineer. DeShazo was appointed to the Inspection Department of the District Police on August 1, 1900 and was assigned to the Worcester District. In the 1910 census James and Emma were living on 103 Austin Street in Worcester and he listed his occupation as State Inspector.
On November 13, 1914, while on duty in the Worcester office of the Massachusetts District Police, Inspector DeShazo was assaulted by an engineer with a blow to his left side which left him unconscious with two fractured ribs. He lingered in great pain for six months. On April 15, 1915 he prepared his Last Will and Testimony.
James DeShazo died at age 56 years – 11 months – 9 days - while still serving on the District Police on May 17, 1915.
In the 1920 census, Emma was widowed and still living in Worcester. Emma died in Worcester in 1927. They are buried together in Hope Cemetery in Worcester - Lot # 5493 – Section 75. They did not have any children.
