He was the son of Thomas Watkins and Fannie Cavanaugh Watkins.
On December 27, 1957 as Bobby Franklin Watkins, he married Joy Laverne Whitaker at the First Baptist Church in Wills Point, Texas.
They were the parents of four children.

Abbeville. Funeral services will be held at 2PM Friday, May 20, 2005, at First Baptist Church for Bobby Franklin Watkins, 72, who died Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at a Lafayette hospital. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery. The Rev. Pres Riley will be officiating the services.

Bobby, a retired Colonel with the U.S. Army, was also retired from Amoco Oil. He was a Deacon with the First Baptist Church having taught religion classes. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 29.

Bobby was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He lived his life as a true man of God. He touched all those he come in contact with in a way that they saw his love, gentleness and kindness. Those who knew him loved, admired and respected him. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Bobby is survived by his wife of Perry; four sons; a brother of Idaho; and five grandchildren. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Watkins and the former Fannie Cavanaugh; a granddaughter, Aleah Watkins; a brother, Thomas Watkins; and five sisters: Mazie Reese, Lazelle Swanson, Margie Adams, Alta Herin and Luna Watkins.

Visitation was observed from noon until 10PM Thursday and will continue from 8AM until 1:45PM today when the procession will depart for the church. Pallbearers will be Robert F. Watkins, Ronald V. Watkins, Hugh T. Watkins, Kyle P. Watkins, Dave McClanahan, Mark Sagrera, Darren Broussard, Brodie Duhon and Kevin Broussard. Vincent Funeral Home, 209 S. St. Charles Street, Abbeville, 337-893-4661, is in charge of arrangements.
