Mrs. Georgia McGrew

Georgia Cole, daughter of John and Everella Cole, was born near Selma, Iowa, in Davis county, Mar. 28, 1866 and departed this life, after a long illness, at the Jefferson County Hospital, May 4th, 1938, at the age of 72 years, 1 month and 6 days.

She was united in marriage to Geo. McGrew, Mar. 13, 1894 by the Rev. Barber of Eldon.

The only child, an adopted daughter, Ruth, passed away a little over a year ago.

Her father, mother and two sisters preceded her in death. Her surviving relatives are a nephew and three nieces and their families, William S. Ervin, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Mary Hill, Douds, Iowa; Mrs. Maude Roberts, Lebanon, Iowa; Mrs. Edith Talbott, Selma, Iowa; several cousins and distant relatives.

She spent her early life by being a successful teacher in the schools of Van Buren county also taught in the State of Kansas, and Minnesota. She was always loved by her pupils. For a number of years she lived in the vicinity of Douds, but the last few years she has made her home at Sigourney.

She joined the Christian church when young and remained firm in her faith.

She was a good neighbor and always willing to help those in sickness, and in any other way when help was needed. She will be greatly missed by her many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday May 6th at 2 p.m., at the Mt. Moriah church in charge of Rev. G.W. Barber of Eldon and Rev. Richardson of Douds. Interment in the Mt. Moriah cemetery.

The marriage to George McGrew ended in divorce. Before divorcing, however, the couple adopted a daughter named Ruth Schillerstrom. Ruth used her adopted parents' surname. Ruth is buried next to Georgia at Mount Moriah Cemetery. Ruth's F/A/G memorial # is 154878192
