Harry I. Gruber, 87, of 308 Edison St., Wernersville, Berks County, formerly of Bethlehem, died Sunday in Reading Hospital and Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Irene W. (Stieff) Gruber.

He was a machinist in the Textile Machine Works, Wyomissing, Berks County, for many years before retiring. Before that he was a knitter at the former Berkshire Knitting Mills, Wyomissing.

Born in North Heidelberg Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late Milton R. and Annie A. (Blatt) Gruber.

He was a member and former deacon and consistory member of St. John's (Hain's) United Church of Christ, Wernersville.

Survivors: Daughter, Fern V.G., wife of Walter F. Bowen, with whom he resided; brother, Peter E. of Orlando, Fla., and a sister, Maggie E. Sturgis of West Lawn, Berks County.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday, Lamm & Witman Funeral Home, Wernersville. Call 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday.
