Luther Lee Allen passed away surrounded by his family on December 25, 2008. He was born on January 27, 1929 to Arthur and Gladys Allen in Vesper, Kansas.
He married Shirley Elaine Hooper on July 26, 1951 in Salina, Kansas.
He proudly served his country in the US Army. After finishing his apprenticeship as a Master Mason, he moved to Colorado Springs with his family in 1957. Luke was a businessman and entrepreneur. He owned and operated Allen Masonry for over 40 years. Luke loved all the Colorado outdoor activities, especially fishing, scuba diving, camping and hunting with his family and grandchildren.
Luke loved the sport of bowling after his wife got him started in the mixed leagues in the late 1950's. He was an excellent bowler and won every achievement with the city tournaments. He also traveled and competed in several national tournaments in the 1970's.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley E.; his children, Howard L., Luther L. II (Wendy) and Chella (Robert) DiMenza; brothers, Robert (Pat), Duane "Shorty" and James (Shirley) Bartlett; sisters, Kate (Don) Meets, Edith (Gary) Jones, Ester Fink and Pat Broils.
A special place in his heart was filled with his 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his son, Scott Thomas Allen and sisters, Leonara and Phyliss.
We are honoring his life with a Memorial Service on Tuesday, December 30th, 1:00 p.m. at Dove-Witt Fountain Valley Chapel, 6630 S. Highway 85/87.
His family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the El Paso County Search and Rescue or the donor's choice in Luke's memory.
